Tea Anyone? Another Natural Cancer Treatment and Preventative

Tea is said to have about 8 to 10 times more antioxidants than what we eat daily in fruits and vegetables. Wow!  This makes tea (black, green, white or oolong -- a blend of black and green) a radical cancer fighter!
Studies over the last ten years have shown that ounce for ounce, the catechins or flavonoid compounds with antioxidant properties that are found in GREEN tea are as much as 100 times more potent as an antioxidant than vitamin C and 25 times more potent than vitamin E.
Studies suggest that by drinking tea, one can cut off the blood supply to cancer cells so that they stop growing and multiplying. Green tea has powerful compounds called polyphenols that inhibit cancer cell growth and migration.

In one study, researchers tested the power of polyphenols in a group of men diagnosed with prostate cancer. Half of them drank only water each day, while the others drank six cups of green tea. The group who drank green tea had much lower levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA).  The polyphenols killed the men’s cancer cells by stopping vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF).
Adding lemon to the green tea increases the amount of catechins. Catechins don’t live long in non-acidic environments, such as your intestines. Without lemon, you eliminate up to 80 percent of the total antioxidants in that cup of tea.  Consuming green tea and other foods containing catechins may also help prevent cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, lowers cholesterol and even help with weight loss.
Not all teas are created equally; purchase pure, organic tea.  Teas found in your supermarket may not be as strong if there are additives.   Recommended servings per day: 2 cups.
